I Have a Dream: Jobs

I’m a bit frustrated today on the 150th anniversary of the Emancipation Proclamation and 50th of the march we are considering bombing another country. I’m pretty sure Dr. King would have advocated for a non-violent solution. So, I visited the MLK Jr historic site today. It seemed to me the place to be on the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington. BTW – only a few others were at the center.

But aside from stating my hope for a better Syrian solution, my real message of the day is we all need to do something to make the world a better place.   I know that I can do something about is job creation.  Today I committed to improving technical college graduation rates, increasing the income of working poor and creating jobs in Atlanta.

My dream is that Atlanta 50 years from now will be known for innovation and job creation.

What are you going to do?

I met today with Alok Deshpande this morning.  He is the bright, young Chief Legacy Officer for the Atlanta startup, Umenta.  We all have stories that make us human.  Our multi-generational family struggles and triumphs are worth remembering and sharing.  Umenta understands the importance of capturing them for future generations. They make it easy.  They interview, professional write and capture family history: oral and written.  They transform it in a beautiful interactive web presence and hardback art-book format.

Dreams come true when you focus. My life is separated into sectors: Family & Friends, Live Life, Art Factory and Community. Dreams come true where they overlap. I figure if I end up wide of the mark, I’ll just open up a pizza parlor in a college town.
