I’ve been to the mountiantop.

Take a Hike!

Take a Hike!

I’ve been to the top of the mountain this past weekend and I learned a few things.

  1. My old-school JanSport backpack is in better shape than my old legs
  2. Climbing up 4,000 feet in the Appalachian Mountains is just as difficult as in the Rocky Mountains – 4,000 feet up is 4,000 feet up.
  3. Carrying a 50+ pound backpack is a bad idea.
  4. Freeze-dried chili mac mixed with any other freeze-dried food improves it immensely.
  5. There are 3 bars and LTE signal on parts of the AT – That’s disappointing.
  6. Staying in shelters on the AT is a great idea. You meet people from all over the world and you don’t have to carry that damn tent.
  7. Water filtration pumps will be part of the reason why I survive the zombie apocalypse.
  8. Hiking down with a light pack just doesn’t seem fair – but I’m not complaining.
  9. If you keep putting one boot in front of the next you can climb any mountain.
  10. Hiking with your 17-year-old son is priceless.

Take a hike.
